Please understand that these schedules provide a structure and framework for instruction, however there is always an element of flexibility to reflect responsive teaching based on student needs in relation to achieving the identified learning outcomes.

*** as stamina grows, Ind Reading becomes whole group so I can conference easier with time coming out of other morning blocks as student need dictates

First Grade

8:30-9:00

Fluency or WG phonics (based on needs)

Third Grade

7:45-8:00- Daily Fluency

MONDAY

  • Cold read new passage - timed 1 minute

  • Partner marks how many words are read correctly in 1 minute.

  • Students graph his/her wpm.

  • Teacher reads the whole passage aloud.

 

TUESDAY

  • Students read entire passage.

  • Partner peer assesses based on the fluency rubric and gives feedback.

  • Set a weekly fluency goal based on the rubric scores.

 

WEDNESDAY

  • Partner practice and feedback

 

THURSDAY

  • Students use iPads to record themselves reading.

  • Listen to recording and self-assess.

 

FRIDAY

  • Final read - timed 1 minute

  • Partner marks how many words are read correctly in 1 minute.

  • Students graph wpm read.

  • Reflect on weekly goal, wpm comparison, and overall fluency progress

8:00-8:45

Monday - Read Aloud/Teacher Modeling

Tuesday - Shared Reading/Teacher Modeling with student interaction with the text

Wednesday & Thursday - Independent Reading focus based on the learning goals (during this time I am pulling guided groups)

Friday - Weekly “Checkpoint Assessment” centered on learning goals (During this time I monitor and pull a guided group if I see students struggling with the checkpoint)

8:45-9:30

Independent Reading

(During this time I conferencing with individual students and pull a guided group based on observation or data)

*I try to keep the conferences and any guided group focus to a minimum of 10-15 minutes so all students have a 30 minute block of independent reading every day.

9:30-10:10
